ABOUT

Before pursuing my counseling career, I was a dedicated opera singer studying at the world renowned Oberlin Conservatory. After two years at this wonderful program, I decided to finish my undergraduate work in Christian Ministries at Leavell College at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (NOBTS) and then completed my Master of Arts in Counseling at NOBTS.

Following my time at NOBTS, I had a wide variety of clientele experience working in inpatient facilities, private practice, safe houses for human trafficking victims, and non profits.  My clinical experience has taken place in New Orleans, Lafayette, Opelousas, and India. A large part of my therapeutic time was working with individuals that experienced complex trauma, attachment trauma, chronic illness and pain, and medical trauma. Currently, I thoroughly enjoy working with other professionals in the helping professional such as ministers, missionaries, medical professionals and mental health professionals through consultation, trainings, and mentorship. Alongside consulting, teaching and counseling, I own and run a counseling group practice, Lotus Counseling and Wellness with my husband, Trent Istre.

We started Lotus Counseling and Wellness to have a team of expert therapists to work alongside us. Our vision is to continue expanding Lotus to become a more integrative wellness center offering Neurofeedback, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, Far Infrared Sauna, Ecotherapy and a nonprofit wing offering financial assistance for these services.

When I am not counseling and managing Lotus, I enjoy engaging the Acadiana community about mental health awareness, mentoring other counselors, and participating in local non-profit fundraisers. I enjoy hiking, pilates, reading, and spending time with friends, family and my three pups, Zeke, Mose, and Chip.

Therapeutic Approach

My therapeutic approach is integrative and client centered utilizing attachment based and trauma informed protocols including EMDR, Sandtray Therapy, Brainspotting, Trust Based Relational Intervention, Polyvagal Theory, Narrative Therapy, Art Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Ego State Therapies such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), Structural Dissociation, and Developmental Needs Meeting Protocol (DNMS).
